Engineering Department Manager We are currently looking for an Engineering Department Manager at our BWSR – Kesselring Site location near Schenectady, NY. This is a senior level management position reporting directly to the BWSR Kesselring Site Manager. Will work with Lead Engineer to direct and coordinate activities of engineers to include writing work packages for Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) activities at a nuclear facility, managing engineers and designers of large projects for the development of project specifications, calculations, design basis documents, system studies and construction drawings. Work includes managing budget and schedule as well as technical excellence of the Project. The candidate will lead a team of engineers to develop proposal write-ups, proposal budgets, and proposal estimates. Provides direction and leadership within the project environment to groups of technical personnel. Ensures that project schedules and budgets are achieved as well as the technical accuracy of work product. Coordinates with other leaders within the project organization to ensure that multi-discipline interfaces are properly addressed. Ensures that work is executed in accordance with approved work processes using standard tools that have been adopted by the Company. Duties include: Oversee Lead Engineer in the direction and coordination of engineering department activities including development of and performance to project schedules. Review and approve engineered work documents to ensure technically correct engineered solutions, oversee procedures for renovation, restoration, decontamination, disassembly of equipment, packaging of equipment for shipment, and oversight such that all radiological, safety, environmental, and engineering standards are met.
Be aware of and instrumental in the resolution of project issues. Mentor and train the engineers to facilitate professional development. Perform duties such as annual performance evaluations, performance improvement plans, and career development plans. Candidate shall ensure compliance with Customer and organization and department processes. Interface with other departments and customer organizations. Conduct presentations. Identify and prepare engineering department processes and procedures to improve the department. Be actively involved in the engineering department self-assessment program. Responsible for supervising a group of engineers and designers for the development of mechanical equipment specifications, calculations, and design basis documents. Demonstrates good knowledge of project engineering with the ability to coordinate a project engineering team. Must have strong client skills and an understanding of project related financial issues. Must have a general knowledge of all project activities. Ability to motivate staff to obtain optimum performance. Equipment design and fabrication to support Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) work; engineering performance; oversight of procedures for renovation, restoration, decontamination, disassembly of equipment; packaging of equipment for shipment; oversight such that all radiological, safety, environmental, and engineering standards are met, and to ensure work document quality is maintained. Oversight of multiple concurrent D&D project groups to ensure timely and quality project execution. Organization and oversight of building future D&D project work. Job Qualifications / Requirements Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Science is required with a minimum of 5 years engineering experience in the field of radiological decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) projects, environmental work and experience in related support areas (such as asbestos abatement, hazardous materials, fall protection, etc.). A minimum of 5 years of management/supervisory experience or experience in a leadership role is highly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Quality and maintain qualifications of an Engineer of Radiological Work Manager, Engineer of High Risk Work, and Contamination Worker as a minimum. Prior Naval Reactors Program experience is strongly preferred. Must be a US Citizen-no dual citizenship. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain radiological qualifications.
